TIRANA, April 13 /ATA/ – Supporters of the united opposition gathered for an anti-government protest on Tirana’s main boulevard Martyrs of the Nation on Saturday afternoon.
Protesters, some of them masked, lit flares, threw smoke bombs, firecrackers and paint against the police lines and the Prime Minister’s Office.
Likewise, protesters have also hurled fruits and vegetables against the government building and poured milk on the pavement.
While the opposition’s leadership is expected to join the protest, State Police called on the protest organizers and demonstrators to keep calm. “Honorable organizers, honorable citizens. Take appropriate measures. Punishments will be exacted according to law.”
Police are also calling on a group of masked protesters. “Organizers, protesters, keep calm! You will be held responsible. Remove yours masks and stop hurling objects against police officers!”
Meanwhile, State Police have taken all appropriate measures for the safety and peaceful conduct of the opposition’s rally.
Members of Rapid Intervention Force and the “Shqiponja” special unit have been deployed along with the riot police to safeguard the peaceful conduct of the protest.
