Hahn condemns violence, supports right to protest

TIRANA, March 19/ATA/- European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn on Tuesday expressed support for the right to protest and freedom of expression in the Western Balkans and condemned all forms of violence as unacceptable.

Speaking after a meeting with North Macedonia Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, Hahn said that all forms of violence are unacceptable and the European Union is very strict about this.

“There are people who wants us to force rule of law and think we can enter a country and replace the authorities” using military might, he told reporters in Brussels, adding that the EU’s view of rule of law is transparency, democracy and the defence of the judiciary.

According to Hahn, the region should see political changes based on democratic process and free and transparent elections. “That is what we support but believing that we should arbitrate, say who is good and bad, that is who should step down and who should come in is not at all our view,” he said.//a.i/
