Biggest-ever infrastructural investment programme set to kick off this year

TIRANA, June 9 /ATA/ – Albania is set to kick-start some of the largest investment planned in the country’s road infrastructure in a bid to upgrade and transform infrastructure and fuel economic growth and employment,

“The biggest-ever volume of investment in road infrastructure will ensure their exemplary transformation, as well as significant economic and employment growth in the country,” Prime Minister Edi Rama said in a post on his Facebook page on Saturday.

PM Rama cited some of the major road infrastructure projects as part of his government ambitious programme to support the country’s infrastructural rebirth during this term in office.

“Good morning and through this national infrastructure programme, which is about to launch the biggest-ever volume of investment in the country’s roads within a term in office, ensuring their exemplary transformation, as well as a significant economic and employment growth, I would like yo wish everyone a peaceful weekend,” the government head wrote.

The work on construction of a series of infrastructural projects is set to kick off soon, including the new two-lane highway, Arberi Road, designed to link the capital, Tirana, with the Dibra region on the Macedonian border, which shortens the distance to 74 kilometres only.

The Kardhiq-Delvine road axis also shortens the distance and the travel time between Tirana and the southernmost coastal town of Saranda to three hours only, and provides Gjirokaster region shorter access to the coast.

Another important project is the Tepelena bypass, which upgrades standards and shortens distance from Levan to Gjirokaster and Kakavije.

The program also includes other sections of the big Tirana ring road project in the country’s capital.

Another major infrastructure project is the Thumane-Kashar motorway, which shortens distance and relaxes traffic along one of the country’s busiest roads.

The new road linking Orikum and Llogara and stretch further via a tunnel to the coastal town of Himara is another project in the country’s south.

The program also includes the Milot-Balldren highway.
