Bicycle riders rewarded on World Environment Day

TIRANA, June 5 /ATA/-The planting of 120 thousand trees, the initiative for reduction of plastic bags and increase of the bike paths- all these have transformed Tirana into an environmentally-friendly city.

The first Mobike bikes brought to Tirana will make a revolution on the way how we move in the capital given that their extensive use will have a direct impact into reduction of pollution in the capital.

This is good news on the World Environment Day.

On this day, a group of young people thanked the citizens who were using bicycle as a means of transportation giving them LED lamps as a present, environmentally friendly and energy-saving lamp, as well as duffel bags to replace the plastic bags.

Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj joined the event saying that the best way of marking the World Environment Day is to make a concrete contribution on protection of environment.

“Instead of criticizing, for the first time we are rewarding those who have been friendly to environment”, said Veliaj.

Veliaj positively assessed the government of Albania decision to ban use of plastic bags which will notably reduce pollution.

Following the green revolution of planting more than 120 thousand trees, Tirana is the first city in the Balkans that introduces the Mobike, a fully station-less bicycle-sharing system, an ecological and innovative way of movement in the city.

He also thanked the citizens who have begun to use the e-cars and said that other citizens of Albania will follow the initiatives launched by Tirana City Hall./z.tosku/ j.p/p.s./
