TIRANA, May 24 /ATA/- Prime Minister Edi Rama declared on Thursday that the refusal of opposition to approve the 2018 resolution on findings and recommendations of EC report on Albania is an unprecedented act of faithlessness and betrayal of the country and people.
During the plenary session, which was interrupted by DP lawmakers, Rama said that it is the first time in the history of Albanian parliamentarism that a party walks out of parliament hall in an act of defiance against a resolution of national interest.
Recalling the time when SP was in opposition, Rama said although our party had boycotted parliament, the SP parliamentary group came to parliament to assist with drafting the resolution on NATO membership and unanimously voted with DP, then in the government.
“We drew criticism from anyone because we did not use that tragic moment as a political lever to undermine a process which was about to finalize, membership of Albania in NATO. To date only one mile away from the end of a long journey with parliament duty-bound to vote an unbiased resolution, an expression of Albanians’ will, we witness what has not happened before. DP does what it has not done before in the past when in opposition and in a politically tense situation, it walks out of the hall and refuses to approve the resolution, which represents a willing act of parliament to inform the EU members that parliament of Albania is unanimous in its request for the opening of accession negotiations,” PM Rama said.
PM pointed out that this resolution, from an expression of good will voted by us, risks becoming another setback for our effort, because it is biased and anyone in the European parliaments can use it as one more reason to knock on the doors of those corridors and say Parliament of Albania is not unanimous in opening of accession negotiations, because it is endorsed by the ruling majority alone.
