TIRANA, May 21/ATA/-By request of the local government units, the government decided to postpone levying of the new property tax.
The payment of the tax was set to begin in April of the current year, but it’s postponed to the beginning of next year.
Albania’s Minister of Finance and Economy Arben Ahmetaj said on Monday that the period until the beginning of the New Year will serve as a time of preparation for the local governance units.
“The period until January 2019 is set to be a transitory stage giving the opportunity to the local government units to get prepared so that by January 1, 2019 all the local government units apply the property tax on the basis of the value”, said Ahmetaj.
The single pensioners, the families living on economic assistance and some other strata of people in need will be exempt from the tax.
The minister also answered to charges of the opposition saying that the property tax is not new and it is not increased, but it will be calculated at 0.05% of the property value.
“It will give more opportunity to taxpayers to get to know what they are paying and to the local government to get a better control on the territory and a more transparent way of tax collection”, concluded the minister. /z.tosku//r.e/p.s./
