Albania will host next Brdo-Brijuni Process Summit

TIRANA, April 27/ATA/-President Ilir Meta attended on Friday the Brdo-Brijuni Process Summit that took place in Skopje of Macedonia.

Attending the summit as special guests was President of the European Council Donald Tusk and Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov.

President Meta emphasized in his speech delivered on this occasion that all members have exploited every opportunity of getting committed to direct dialogue, although not always in agreement.

While referring to the common ambition of European integration for creation of a climate of mutual trust and good understanding, President Meta said that, unfortunately, during the recent months there has been a throwback to provocative remarks and acts, which however, have been isolated cases.

The Head of State expressed his support for the NATO integration ambition of all the countries of the region aspiring to join the NATO. He also emphasized that Albania’s membership into the North-Atlantic Alliance is not against any other country of the region, but it serves to consolidation of architecture and security of the region, which is still unstable.

Likewise, President Meta expressed his concern about the intensified pressure exerted by actors beyond the region, accompanied by rhetoric against the NATO and the EU and targeting to destabilize the region.

President Meta called for a greater attention and commitment coordinated with the EU and the NATO in function of a crystal clear European perspective as well as for an effective political, economic and financial support for development of this perspective in the shortest time possible.

Speaking about the European integration process, President Meta emphasized that integration of the region in the EU is not only a common ambition, but it’s the best guarantee of peace, stability and prosperity, in the interest of the region and also in the best interest of the EU.

At the end of the summit, the heads of states of the Brdo-Brijuni Process approved a common statement emphasizing the need of a greater synergy in the regional initiatives and the mechanisms for building an all-embracing region.

They also called on the EU to continue support for development of the inter-regional economic integration so that to increase the interest of the regional market and go ahead with economic growth.
