Vlahutin : Albania , a model for justice reform achievements in region

TIRANA, April 25 /ATA / – The Head of the European Union Delegation in Tirana, Ambassador Romana Vlahutin, presented Wednesday the European Commission progress report to the Commission on Integration, pointing out that “The report estimates that Albania has made considerable progress in implementation of justice reform.”

“It is essential that reforms must be preceeded at a steady pace. There must be significant progress in the vetting process,” Vlahutin stated.

“All the further steps will require more consensus and joint work towards progress. Knowledge, capacities and skills are important, but achieving the political will would be of great importance . Without a political will the most important reforms in the country can not be undertaken,” the European Union Delegation in Tirana, Ambassador Vlahutin said.

“The May 17, 2018 agreement emphasizes the fact that Albania could serve as a model for several countries in the region that are dealing with difficulties, ” Vlahutin added.

Regarding the fight against drugs and organized crime, Vlahutin said that “The Western Balkans remain the gateway for trafficking of illegal goods.”

According to the EU Commission assessment, Albania has achieved tangible results in the fight against cultivation and trafficking of cannabis in 2017 and it is being expected the crucially important results in 2018.

“The country’s sustainability and complete victory against this phenomenon is absolutely essential,” Vlahutin added. /gj.mima/ /a.g// a.i/
