TIRANA, April 21/ATA/-Elbasan socialist lawmaker Taulant Balla demanded from Minister of Environment Blendi Klosi to take urgent measures against companies that pollute environment and pointed to the chromium plant and oil refinery in the central Albanian city of Elbasan.
MP Balla, Elbasan Mayor Qazim Sejdini and two other MPs, Kushi and Kamami, inspected the plants on Saturday.
Balla said that he had demanded long ago from the Inspectorate of Environment in Elbasan to take measures against pollution caused by these two plants, but it has failed to act.
“Oil refinery is a polluter not only of the air, but even of the oil waste poured into the drainage canals of the arable lands and further into the Shkumbini River”, said Balla.
According to him, while the country is preparing to open EU accession negotiations, we cannot tolerate this pollution./a.gegvataj/p.s./
