TIRANA, April 20 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ – We will crack down on criminal gangs and their illegal assets, all these actions will translate in concrete results in Fier, Lushnja and all over Albania, Minister of Interior , Fatmir Xhafaj, said in his remarks during the “Civic Forum” held in Fier.
“ Restructuring of police is well underway throughout the territory, because Fier and other municipalities will be divided into several police zones and police officers will be stationed in community.”
We will design a process of evaluation for police officers serving in community and any of them will be assessed by the relevant community, he said.
Govt. in place has prioritized fight against organized crime and, to that end, has approved the previous year an action plan encoded “Force of Law” which entails their prosecution and confiscation of criminal assets.
We have so far hit 7 criminal syndicates and have started investigation into their criminal assets. This effort has met with resistance of certain individuals and criminal gangs, particularly in Fier and Lushnja where police have been confronted by the latter. Yet, we remain determined to hit them and deliver results any time soon.
On the other hand, we stand firm on fight against cannabis cultivation. Last year State Police in collaboration with citizens and local govt. we managed to get Albania off the narcotics map, however we need your cooperation to fight this uphill battle.
