Modern cinemas for art-lovers in districts, too

TIRANA, March 30/ATA/-Vlora Municipal Council approved on Friday the pilot project of the National Centre of Cinematography on opening of cinema halls in different districts of Albania. The project got approved thanks to the support of Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro and total commitment of Vlora Mayor Dritan Leli.

The project also undertakes digitalization of the cinemas, an investment worth even for the summer cinema of Vlora on the seafront.

According to the project, in the beginning there will be two cinemas, one in Gjirokastra and one in Vlora and later on other cities will join this initiative of the National Centre of Cinematography.

The equipment with new digital means will be the first step while creation of a rich fund of Albanian films will give the opportunity to the public to get acquainted with the best Albanian products of the recent years.

The Municipal Council of Gjirokastra also approved a similar arrangement with the National Centre of Cinematography on digitalization of the local cinema.

This pilot project on re-building of the cinemas in Gjirokastra and Vlora develops in the context of CircE Project, supported by the EU IPA programme with 4 Mediterranean partners.

In Albania, the project is led by the National Centre of Cinematography which has been working on the project for several years aiming at equipment of the existing halls with new digital apparatuses in the main cities of the country.

Last year, 25 new Albanian films were played for the audiences of the capital, but not to the audience in the other cities of the country because of absence of the proper technique in the respective halls.

To handle the situation, the National Centre of Cinematography has launched this initiative that has the assistance of our partners of Apulia Film Commission and at the same time support of the European funds through the CircE Project./a.a/ /a.g/p.s./
