TIRANA, March 25 /ATA/- The St. Koll monastery, also known as the Mesopotamian Monastery, a first-class culture monument, located in the southern part of the Mesopotam village of Saranda, near the ancient city of Finiq, will undergo a major restoration.

PM Edi Rama wished good morning with the fantastic views of this monastery. “GOOD MORNING, and with these fantastic views of the Mesopotamian monastery, for which a project on reinforcement interventions has been conducted to be implemented any time soon, I wish you all a peaceful Sunday,” Rama writes.

St. Koll Church is a beautifully preserved example of Byzantine architecture. The church is believed to have been built on the site of a pagan temple at the time of the Byzantine Emperor Constantine IX Monomaku.

It is one of the largest and oldest Byzantine churches that features well-preserved authentic values.

It is distinguished for decorations and mosaics with floral motifs and zoomorphic designs, as well as for brickwork decorations in the exterior wall and in the arched windows and entrances.
The Church includes the large prayer hall and two smaller rooms. The central motif in the mosaic of the hall is an open winged dragon. The church has undergone two reconstructions in 1793 and 1845.
