Thaçi urges EU to lift visa requirements for Kosovo

PRISHTINA, March 23 /ATA/ – Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi said after a meeting with the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiation, Johannes Hahn, in Brussels on Friday, that Kosovo has fulfilled the visa liberalisation requirements.

Describing the meeting with Hahn as productive, Thaçi noted that with the ratification of the border demarcation deal with Montenegro, Kosovo had satisfied last condition for the visa liberalisation and urged the European Union to deliver its pledge to Kosovo citizens and abolish the visa regime.

“Not it’s the EU’s turn to conclude procedures so that visa-free travel becomes a reality as soon as possible. Kosovo will continue to fulfil its commitments for rule of law and far-reaching reforms,” President Thaçi wrote on Facebook.

According to Kosovo’s head of state, Commissioner Hahn had pledged to complete the required procedures within the EU institutions.

“We both agreed that ratification of the border demarcation agreement fulfils not only the condition for visa liberalization, but it also represents a significant strategic step towards strengthening peace, stability and good neighbourhood in the region,” Thaçi concluded.
