TIRANA, March 15/ATA/- The struggle against crime is an inseparable part of the struggle against poverty and “Force of the Law” operation is in the right track, said on Thursday to the Parliament Minister of Interior Fatmir Xhafaj.
Xhafaj emphasized in his speech that, “The government has declared war without compromise to the criminal activity like drugs because no criminal activity can bring about any economic progress.
“It is a fact that in 2017 Albania was removed from the blacklist of countries cultivating cannabis. It was the result of the anti-cannabis operation launched in cooperation with our partners in this struggle”, said Xhafaj.
Xhafaj added that in 2018 the government aims at confirming the results achieved last year and in order to have further success we need to have inter-institutional coordination so that to deal blows to the crime in its hotbed, poverty on one hand and institutional coordination on the other so that to give an effective solution”.
“Poverty is not a reason to encourage illegitimacy”, said further on Xhafaj.
He emphasized that the government has reached to the conclusion that, “We are on the right track and above all we are determined to move forward.”
The minister of interior emphasized that Albania’s partners, the USA and the EU, as well as the specialized agencies like DEA, Europol, Interpol and the Italian Anti-Mafia Department have expressed in a crystal clear way the merit of the Albanian authorities in the success of the “Force of the Law” operation.
Minister Xhafaj highlighted the statement of Italy’s chief anti-Mafia prosecutor Federico Cafiero de Raho that, “Albanian police sequestering 613 kg of cocaine is among the first results of the strategy against organized crime and corruption which the government of Albania has been effectively implementing”./p.s./
