Sweden supports Albania’s EU integration process

TIRANA, March 15/ATA/-Sweden supports Albania’s EU integration, said Director General of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) Carin Jämtin during a meeting with Albania’s Minister of Finance and Economy Arben Ahmetaj on Thursday.

She emphasized that this is the main goal of the activity of the SIDA Office in Tirana. In this context, she highlighted the special significance of implementation of the justice reform in Albania.

On his part, the minister evaluated Sweden’s support for all the steps of Albania’s integration process into the EU. Ahmetaj expressed his conviction that Sweden will continue to support Albania even in the framework of discussions for opening of the EU accession negotiations. “This is a challenge which Albania is actually prepared to face”, said the minister.

During the meeting, the interlocutors also discussed on the trade exchanges between Albania and Sweden.

In 2017, trade between the two countries amounted to 31.7 million Euros, i.e. a 56% increase as compared to 2016.

Ahmetaj appealed to Swedish entrepreneurs to exploit the potentials created thanks to the recent initiatives launched by the government of Albania, like the deregulation reform.

According to him, in Albania operate about 20 active Swedish enterprises in the sector of trade, processing industry and services, agriculture, forestry and fishery although the investment capital is still small./a.g/p.s./
