Tirana – Elbasan motorway to be finalized this year

TIRANA, March 13 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ The road Tirana- Elbasan will be finalized within this year to continue with the road axis linking Elbasani with Korça.

At the meeting of the Council of Ministers which was held in the region of Elbasan this year, PM Edi Rama focused on main investments in this region as well as the projects that are high on the list of priorities.

“Each month we will stop in a different region not for purposes of excursion or tourism, but to go to these areas and talk to people there, to let them know of our projects and remain in close touch with the reality,” Rama said.

Concerning the region of Elbasan, PM said we have two issues inherited from the past, two holes that we have tried to fill, although we are halfway to plugging them up due to foolishness of the past and greed of the present.

PM cited the Elbasan-Tirana highway project and another road Qukës-Qafë Plloçë. “Two projects, contracts, scandalous management and appallingly increased costs. We remain committed to implementing them with Tirana- Elbasan motorway expected to be finalized within this year,” PM said.

According to Rama, Elbasani and Tirana will be definitely linked by this new motorway to move on to the segment Qukës-Qafë Plloçë linking Elbasani with Korça.

“Likewise, we are about to finalize a new road axis started in the first term of office, setting the stage for development of an economic pole between Elbasani and Berat, linking Cërriku, Belshi, Ura Vajgurore and Kuçova as areas with great potentials for agricultural development, opening up new opportunities for all agricultural enterprises to access the markets,” Rama said.

A string of other projects in the portfolio of the next four years for the region of Elbasan are related to infrastructure, water supply network and energy.

Rama brought to attention the 400 kilovolt interconnection project linking Fier-Elbasan-Manastir, which will bring another positive development to the energy sector and connect our grid with Macedonia and the rest of the Balkans.

Elbasani will be one of the regions to obtain the largest benefit from the new programme of tourist villages.

“There are 8 fascinating rural areas in the region that are part of this programme, such as Gjinari, Shushica, Pajova, Stërbleva, Shtërmeni, Seferani, Sotira and Dardha which are in dire need of investments to become developed areas, enabling them to create jobs and grow their economies capitalizing on their natural resources,” Rama.

Elbasani is a territory where 374 projects have been implemented and funded during the first term of office, of which 79 in infrastructure, PM said.
