TIRANA, March 12/ATA/-Albania’s Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Damian Gjiknuri said on Monday that the feasibility study on Saranda airport will be carried out within spring.
“It will be a tourist airport and I believe it will be an important knot that will be useful not only to Saranda resort, in Southern Albania, but even to Corfu if the need arises,” said Gjiknuri.
Further on, he spoke on the opportunities of making further investments in Saranda Port for the enlargement of the quay. The implementation of the project will need several years, but it is necessary because there has been a growing interest on the part of travel agencies operating cruise ships of having Saranda a daily station during the tourist season”, emphasized Gjiknuri.
Meanwhile, Gjiknuri said that construction works on Kardhiq-Delvina road are due to begin during the current year. The road is rather useful because it will cut the travel distance from Tirana to Saranda even more.
Gjiknuri appreciated that the road will give a fresh impetus to tourist activity of Saranda.
Minister Gjiknuri was in Southern Albania together with Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro and the local lawmaker Alket Hyseni.
They visited Gjin Aleksi mosque in Rusan village of Delvina.
The mosque is undergoing reconstruction following cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and the Muslim Community.
Gjiknuri also said that the entrance road to Saranda is due to be built before the tourist season.
Tourism is developing in Saranda resort while the government of Albania pays great attention to tourism./a.g/p.s./
