TIRANA, March 12/ATA/-Albanian rapid intervention forces and fire-fighters rescued 4 Albanian young climbers who got trapped by snow and ice on the Southern mountains around Sotira village, in Upper Dropull. The four climbers got struck on the mountains on Sunday.
Gjirokastra Prefect Astrit Aliaj confirmed the news to ATA saying that the rescue operation ended successfully.
Aliaj praised the rescue operation carried out by air and land. He also provided some details of the story.
“Three of the young men had departed from Gjirokastra city on Sunday morning wishing to spend a day in a different way as they were fond of adventure tourism. The fourth was a guide from a nearby village. But, the guide lost the way and the young people remained trapped.
A helicopter was sent to pick them up, but was unable to land.
Hence, the rescuers decided to go on foot. A local resident, Lefter Foga, 70, helped in the rescue operation as he knew the area and led the rescue teams to the trapped climbers. Thus, the rescue operation ended successfully,” said Aliaj. /a.f//r.e/p.s./
