TIRANA, Sept 22 /ATA/ Tourism development in Zvërnec and the preservation of the area’s natural values were the focus of a visit by Members of the Albanian Parliament and Members of the European Parliament. The visit took place within the framework of the Albania–EU Stabilisation and Association Committee meeting, following its 22nd session held a day earlier in Tirana.

Taulant Balla, head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, said that during the visit they were informed that environmental commitments for tourism development in the area are designed to meet or overshoot European Union requirements. He emphasised that this shows Albania’s capacity to attract high‑standard international investment while maintaining the governance benchmarks required by the EU integration process.

Regarding the project, Balla said it is intended to serve as an example of how major international investments in Albania can be implemented in line with European standards, combining responsible investment, environmental accountability and the creation of sustainable value for the community and the domestic economy.

Balla underlined that they were informed the project is being drafted on the principle that Albania’s coastline and natural ecosystems are assets that must be protected, with a commitment to meet or go beyond the applicable EU environmental standards.

The Socialist Party’s parliamentary group chairman said a key objective was to ensure that the economic value generated by the investment remains in Albania, delivering benefits through local employment, skills training, the involvement of domestic suppliers and businesses, growth in tourism and the creation of long‑term economic activity in the Vlora region.

On the project’s approach to the landscape, Balla said particular attention was being given to green spaces and to preserving and enhancing the area’s natural character. He added that priority was being placed on detailed plans for greenery and planting, to be developed in line with the relevant environmental assessment and approval procedures.
