TIRANA, Nov 7 /ATA/ The Democratic Party MP, Ina Zhupa, has reacted over the amalgamation of courts in the South, emphasizing that this move is detrimental to the residents of these areas and an irresponsible act of the government from which it should withdraw as soon as possible.

“The government plans to close down Saranda’s First Instance Court and the Gjirokastra Court of Appeals, which have jurisdiction over the complaints of citizens and entities of Saranda, Ksamil, Konispol, Finiq, Delvina, the area I represent as an MP,” said Zhupa.

She states that, “citizens will be unable to go to court due to distance, economic situation, obsolete roads. Many citizens will struggle with soaring costs and waste of time due to this move, which is in violation of the right to go to courts.”

“If the First-Instance Court of Saranda will be closed to be merged with that of Gjirokastra, the citizens of these areas will travel about 80-90 or 130 km to get to the Gjirokastra Court, counting remote villages of the former Saranda District. If the Gjirokastra Court of Appeals is merged with that of Vlora or Fier, the travel distance to go to the Court for the citizens of the Municipality of Saranda, Delvina, Finiq, Konispol increases to about 150-180 kilometers without including the return”, she said.
