The General Directorate of Prisons in cooperation with the State Police is conducting the transfer of the convicts and will last two days.

Justice Minister Ulsi Manja inspected again this morning the premises where the patient convicts of Zaharia will be accommodated, seeing closely the conditions and the measures taken. He praised the work done, emphasizing that after more than 20 years of recommendations and remarks, it is realized the closure of one of the most criticized and depreciated institutions.

According to Manja, the stay of these people in these premises will be a transitional phase, until they are finally taken under care by the Ministry of Health in an institution totally adapted to the problems of these people.

“We promised that Zaharia prison would be closed within November and we kept it. I thank all the staff engaged, especially those of the General Directorate of Prisons, Zahari and St. Koll prisons for their physical and human commitment even on days-off, in the treatment and accommodation of these persons in the reconstructed premises of Lezha ” , said Manja.

The convicts isolated in the cells of the building are mentally ill, paraplegic- or tetraplegic, as well as over 65 years old. /j.p/p.s./
