Begaj says that 32 years ago today on December 8, the protests staged by Tirana University students would ultimately divide the history of the Albanian state into two eras.

According to him, this is exactly the reason why Albania honors and celebrates December 8 as the National Youth Day, expressing our gratitude to the students and young people of that time, as well as our responsibility and obligation to the Albanian youth at all times.

“That December would be the last December of communist regime, and it would go down in history as the first December of freedom in political pluralism, and the month that kindled the hope for democracy,” the head of state said in his message.

Albania marks the National Youth Day on December 8, a day that commemorates the student and youth demonstrations of December 1990 that terminated half-a-century of dictatorship in 1990.
