Rama: We are closing this year with lowest number of homicides

TIRANA, Dec 30 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Monday that Albania is closing the year with the lowest number of homicides.
During the year-end press conference, Rama stated that homicides have been decreasing each year. Referring to the homicide statistics graph, he reminded, “When we took office, we inherited an average of 1 murder every 3 days, and we have consistently reduced this number since then.”
“However, the media and political world thrive on violence and injury, and on the lookout for a spectacle. This year, there have been two spectacles that, in terms of intensity and public manipulation, deserve to be brought to the spotlight. In relation to the truth, they were two examples of how the public can be manipulated and deceived. One was the spectacle after the murder in Pogradec, which was marred by lies, fabrications, and scandal after scandal regarding the integrity of public service,” said Rama.

The Prime Minister stated that the other, even more disturbing spectacle in this regard was the one surrounding the murder of the 14-year-old and the tragedy faced by that family.

“In that case, fictional killers were fabricated, other weapons were invented, and criminal narratives were presented regarding the responsibilities to the public, all amidst the deeply emotional reaction to the loss of such a young life. It is criminal to further poison the public with these lies, as if the emotional harm caused by the incident itself wasn’t enough. To claim that the police have concealed another murderer, that this murderer is the son of a National Bureau investigator, and that the investigation has kept it under wraps for this reason, is a moral crime,” Rama concluded.
