SKOPJE, Jan 29 /ATA/ The eleventh parliamentary elections in North Macedonia will be held on May 8, while the seventh presidential elections will be held on April 24. Until the formation of the new government by the end of June, the country will be run by the technical government led by Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi. This transitional government was elected yesterday with 65 votes “for” and three “against”. VMRO-DPMNE was present in the hall, but abstained from voting as the deputies of the European League for Change did not participate in the session.

The acceptance-handover of duties between the outgoing PM Dimitar Kovacevski and the head of the transitional government Talat Xhaferi is lined up for today. According to the agenda, Prime Ministers Kovacevski and Xhaferi will hold a brief meeting.

Xhaferi, in his presentation before the deputies in the framework of the 141st plenary session, said that for him, as a representative of this short-term government, serving as PM for one day or 100 days makes no difference at all.

“I assure you that at no time will we deviate from what is meant to be a functioning and reliable institution for the citizens and an institution with clearly defined powers in the Constitution in relation to the other pillars of governance in the Republic of North Macedonia,” Xhaferi said.

Xhaferi reiterated that he accepts the mandate with satisfaction and full responsibility, with the promise that conscientiously and pursuant to the Constitution and laws, the Government and the negotiations for its formation will take place according to the need and the political situation in the country, in the hope that the proposed ministers will come up to the expectations of the current situation and above all with responsibility towards the citizens.
