TIRANA, March 16 /ATA/ – Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, stated on Tuesday that the Justice Reform would have been way more difficult without the US support.

“Suffice it to see the resistance from the anti-reform front, suffice it to see how this front fights even today and views the April 25 elections as the last opportunity to reverse justice reform gains, to understand the vital importance of this assistance,” Xhaçka said in her address to the activity “30 years together” on the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations Albania – USA, ” held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Xhaçka went on saying that the relationship with the US represents one of the pillars of diplomacy as well as of the security and reforms policies for our country.

“This is a very important date for our countries, just as it is a very important date at a human level, not only for me, but for tens of thousands of Albanians,” said Xhaçka.

“I am convinced that the relationship between our countries is what it is, strong and consolidated, because it stands on the solid foundations of human bond that exists between us. It is not a relationship built on the strategic interests of one moment or geopolitical convenience of another. It is a relationship between two peoples that are bound by the values, principles and countless threads of family and human bonds, ” said Xhaçka.

“The history of the last 30 years has shown through facts and evidence the importance of friendship with the United States for Albania and Albanians. Every Albanian can ask himself a few simple questions to understand this: What would the history of the Albanian transition have been like without the US support? How would Albanians in the region have been today without the US support? “How would our region torn by conflicts, dictatorship and violence for so long, would have been today without the US intervention?” Minister Xhaçka said.

“The truth is that in every moment of the last 30 years, the United States has been there for us, supporting us, helping us and playing a key role in the transformation of Albania which, although faced with problems and challenges today, has very little in common with the country that James Baker visited back in 1991,” she said.

“In fact, not only the defense, but the entire democratic transformation of Albania and its path towards the European Union membership owes a lot to the US support. Justice reform would have been way more difficult without this support. Suffice it to see the anti-reform front opposes the justice reform, suffice it to see how this front fights even today and views the April 25 elections as the last opportunity to reverse the justice reform, to understand the importance of this assistance, ” Xhaçka said.
