In the context of the war in Ukraine, Prime Minister Rama answered a journalist’s question whether he was concerned about Serbia’s armament in this situation.

“I am not worried about the armament in question, because I see no reason to worry today and I believe it is very important for us all to keep all the winds of peace and cooperation blowing in the region, and it is definitely very important to keep the Western Balkans together as much as possible, even with the help and support of our strategic allies, where Germany has an extremely special role to play. I do not foresee how a missile defense system can be worrying for us,” Rama said.

As for the part of Serbia, Rama stressed that “Serbia has made extremely encouraging steps in both votes at the United Nations and it is really significant that so far the Balkan region is as one in positions against Russia.”

“But of course Serbia’s historical, traditional position is different from ours. We did not expect the war in Ukraine to start to find out, so things have to be seen in context and conclusions should be drawn keeping the context in mind. This means that we must be very determined to advance the process of peace and cooperation in the region, because it is even more important than yesterday, because of this very conflict that has started in Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression,” said Rama.
Asked if he is planning a visit to Kiev, Rama added that “I think there are others before me who deserve to be protagonists and in case it’s my turn I will definitely do it with a lot of respect and with great pleasure, but I think it is not the time to act out of turn.”
