TIRANA, Sept 9 /ATA/ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, announced on Tuesday that construction of a wind farm in Tropoja will begin very soon.

In her remarks at the panel “Economic Priorities and Key Projects,” part of the three-day conference of Albanian ambassadors held in Tirana starting yesterday, Balluku highlighted that the project is currently undergoing authorization and financing procedures, backed by one of the leading American energy companies.

“Corridor 8 is not just a railway or road corridor; it is also an energy corridor for Albania. The country has succeeded in increasing its green energy production sixfold, diversifying its energy portfolio with 30% coming from photovoltaic parks. Until now, Albania primarily relied on hydropower, but since 2019, with a clear national strategy, we have managed to expand production capacity by incorporating new energy sources such as solar power,” Balluku emphasized.

Albania, she emphasized, possesses all the natural resources necessary to develop renewable energy.

“In the coming months, the country is preparing for one of the largest energy projects in Europe—the wind farm in the Tropojë area. This project is currently in the authorization and financing phase, supported by one of the largest American companies, and will add a new green component to Albania’s energy portfolio,” Balluku stated.

According to her, this is a major achievement for Albania and a source of pride.

“When we sit at the negotiation tables and hear colleagues from other countries share their challenges in energy transition, we can confidently say that Albania is not only working toward a green transition but also diversifying its portfolio of green energy sources,” Balluku stated.

Balluku also emphasized that this project is part of a broader effort to make Albania a model of green energy. She added that the wind farm will contribute to the development of the region’s energy infrastructure and strengthen international connections through energy production.

“Albania is moving swiftly toward a more sustainable and green future. The project in Tropoja is an example of our commitment to providing clean and renewable energy sources, ensuring a positive impact on our economy and the region,” Balluku said.

The wind farm in Tropoja is one of the key projects that will contribute to Albania’s long-term goal of making green energy a key pillar of its economy, focusing on the development of renewable energy and providing new investment opportunities for international companies.

According to Balluku, Albania has a sustainable economy and is building a competitive, open economy geared towards the international market.

Balluku highlighted that while foreign investors once faced challenges due to administrative transparency issues, Albania has now become a highly attractive destination for foreign investment thanks to its natural resources and a transparent legal framework aligned with European standards.

Balluku pointed to the investments of major French and US companies as evidence of Albania’s improved transparency and attractiveness to international investors across multiple sectors.

TIRANA, June 15 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, informed that “so far, 9 leading European companies have expressed interest in participating in the competitive bidding for the construction of wind power stations in the country.”

At the First National Anti-Corruption Conference, Balluku said that “the construction of wind parks in Albania has attracted the attention of leading European companies in this sector.”

“Albania is about to develop an innovative experience with the bidding for the construction of wind parks. On June 9, the team of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, with the assistance of the EBRD team, have opened the first phase for expression of interest in construction of 100 MW wind parks in the Republic of Albania, ” said Balluku.

According to her, “so far there are 9 participants, among them leading European electricity companies, such as Austria’s ‘Verbund,’ France’s ‘Total’, which have expressed interest to participate in the second phase and to have after a year a winner in this field as well. ”

Minister of Infrastructure and Energy described this as a testimony of the open competition that the Albanian government is already developing to attract more and more foreign companies.

This bidding comes after two auctions held for the two photovoltaic power plants, Karavasta and Spitalla, which were won by France’s leading company “Voltalia.”
