TIRANA, Jan 18 /ATA/ – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has received an official invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join the Board of Peace, a U.S.-backed initiative aimed at resolving the conflict in Gaza and supporting its reconstruction.

The White House told A2CNN TV channel on Sunday that Board membership does not require a 1-billion-dollar financial contribution, clarifying reports to the contrary.

“There is no requirement to contribute 1 billion dollars, or any financial amount, in order to join the Board of Peace,” the White House told A2 CNN. “The founding charter only states that a country contributing 1 billion dollars would receive permanent member status, rather than a three-year term.”

The White House said funds raised by the Board would be used exclusively for Gaza’s reconstruction.

“The Board of Peace has an ambitious mandate for the full reconstruction of Gaza, and the funds collected will be directed straight toward that goal,” it said, adding that the initiative would avoid inflated salaries or heavy administrative costs common in other international organizations.

Kostelancik’s re-nomination comes after the Senate’s failure to include vote on its agenda during the session that ended in December 2023.

David Kostelancik was resent to the U.S. Senate for approval.

The White House said in a release that David J. Kostelancik, of Illinois, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Albania.

The career diplomat David J. Kostelancik was appointed to be Ambassador of the USA to Albania in January last year. A month later, the Committee backed his candidacy, but his nomination has now been adjourned after no vote took place in the Senate.
