Organized by the Municipality of Fier for the past eight years, the festival has become a cherished tradition, reviving the ancient rituals associated with the celebration of the “new bread” while bringing together the culture, history, and agricultural heritage of Myzeqe.

Balluku emphasized that through support schemes and subsidies, the government continues to encourage farmers to invest in grain cultivation and increase domestic production.

“The participation is truly impressive because people have come not only from Fier, but also from Vlora, and what makes me happiest is that many members of the diaspora have attended as well. Events like these not only create social vitality in Fier County but also encourage people to become more closely connected with agriculture,” Balluku said.

She also called on all farmers to apply for the subsidy packages introduced by the Ministry of Agriculture in order to benefit from the available support programs.

Among the most notable highlights of the festival were the parade of young women dressed in traditional costumes, demonstrations of the wheat-harvesting process, the participation of combine harvester operators and artisan bakers, as well as an exhibition of local agricultural products.

Approximately 5,000 people attended the event, enjoying a concert featuring traditional folk music and sampling the region’s culinary specialties. The Wheat Festival aims to promote the cultivation of domestically produced wheat and strengthen awareness of Myzeqe’s agricultural heritage. The event has been recognized by tourism authorities as one of the most significant traditional festivals in Albania.

The Fier region is one of the areas with the greatest potential in the country for agricultural production, particularly wheat cultivation, making a significant contribution to the national economy, employment, and the development of rural local economies.
