TIRANA, Feb  21 /ATA/ The transformation of the public transport service in these eight years, thanks to the cooperation between the Municipality of Tirana and private operators was in the focus of the meeting that the mayor Erion Veliaj held with representatives of the transport association.

Veliaj announced that the Municipality of Tirana is drawing up a 5-year plan for further transformation of this important service sector for citizens, and in turn several  hearings are being held with all the operators in this field.

He recalled that 3 new lines have been added to Tirana, which increased twofold the urban service coverage, citing some facts and figures that show the improvement of the service.

“Credit for some things done in the proper fashion goes to the joint efforts that have been made by the transport companies and Tirana municipality.

In Tirana, three new lines have been added to the public transport, which covers 375 km, from 169 km we had; it means that the service is offered twice in the number of kilometers and routes that cross the city of Tirana.

Maybe, for someone who grew up in Tirana and takes the same line daily, that is, he commutes from Kinostudio to Kombinat, the difference is not that tangible, but in the metropolitan Tirana, the number of kilometers has more than doubled. We had only 8 suburban lines, today they have doubled: We have 17 intercity lines. The idea was to foster the sense of cohesion between rural Tirana and urban Tirana,” said the mayor.

There are still people in 2023 who label those who come from the districts as new comers – said Veliaj – but the growth of Tirana is inevitable and so is the adaptation of this utilitarian service. Veliaj highlighted the work done by transport companies, which have increased the fleet of vehicles, improving the quality of service for the citizens who use it.
