The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, saw first-hand the progress of the work, stating that “on May 8, we will conduct a test with the landing of the first aircraft on the 3.2-kilometer runway in Vlora, followed by the necessary certifications, so that we can have official landings within the summer season.”

Balluku emphasized that this is a flagship project that turbo-charges the development of the Civil Aviation industry.

Today, Balluku pointed out that passenger numbers at Rinas Airport have grown to 10.7 million, up from 1.7 million in 2013. Looking ahead to 2025, projections suggest a 20-30% increase in passenger traffic through air routes in the country.

Vlora International Airport (VIA) is an investment that is transforming into another major gateway for all the visitors choosing Albania as their travel and vacation destination.

This airport is expected to become the gateway to southern Albania and a driving force for tourism development. Vlora Airport is taking shape on the ground to transform into the country’s main airport, which will operate with over three business models: civil aviation, aircraft maintenance, and a fully-fledged cargo service.

Balluku said that work continues apace in three shifts to ensure Vlora International Airport is constructed on schedule.

Balluku highlighted that nearly all work on the airport project is complete, with operations running in three shifts. The airport is being built with careful attention to standards, including cargo facilities for both passenger and cargo flights. Additionally, the project includes the Civil Aviation Academy and will create 1,200 jobs.

She described this project as the first Albanian industry meeting all the requirements of European countries.
