At this airport, work is well underway on several fronts, the runway, as well as the construction of the 20,000 square meter terminal, the operation tower, the fire brigade building, hangars, the construction of access roads and the entire infrastructure of the airport field.

Vlora International Airport (VIA) is taking shape day by day, to be transformed into another major gateway for all visitors who choose Albania to visit and spend their holidays.

VIA will be the gateway to the South of Albania propelling tourism into development. It is expected to increase Albania’s air connections by ending TIA’s monopoly. In this way, competition between VIA and TIA will reduce flight prices, which will also increase the total number of passengers.

This airport, one of the strategic investments for tourism and the Albanian economy, which is under construction will become the main airport of the country and operate with more than 3 business models: civil aviation, aircraft maintenance and a genuine cargo.

The airport is set to submit the official application in December 2024, together with the relevant documentation for the operation and maintenance of this airport, including emergency plans. It includes an assessment of key post-holders, responsible managers and their qualifications. It will be followed by an on-site inspection, in order to guarantee safety.

The application for the certification of the airport will be carried out within the year, evaluating its operation, staff qualification and security on the ground.

In the first phase, Vlora Airport will operate with a capacity of 2 million passengers. After the closing of the first phase, the airport will undergo two more phases that include the infrastructure for the cargo building, the expansion of the passenger terminal, and the establishment of the flight academy.
