TIRANA, Jan 14 /ATA/- The European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Marta Kos, announced during a speech in the European Parliament that she plans to visit Tirana in February.

The Commissioner stated that this year, the enlargement process is expected to see positive developments, with more significant progress than in the last decade.

Kos commended Albania’s progress towards EU membership. “Albania’s progress should serve as an example for other countries,” said Kos.

Kos also revealed that she plans to visit Montenegro and Albania soon, as she considers them to be the most advanced countries in the enlargement process.

She stated, “Montenegro is expected to conclude negotiations by 2026, and Albania by 2027. We will support these countries, but a significant amount of work is needed.”

Kos added, “The merit-based process should be applicable to both candidate countries and EU member states. Thus, once candidate countries fulfill the criteria, EU member states should facilitate progress.” //a.i/sm/
