Prime Minister Edi Rama today shared the case of the successful procedure, describing the Regional Hospital of Vlora as a regional center of excellence for ophthalmology services.

After the procedure, the 59-year-old patient recovered much of his vision and regained hope for a more independent life.

“In a recent procedure at the Regional Hospital of Vlora, a regional center of excellence for ophthalmology, a delicate operation was successfully performed on a 59-year-old patient who had lost his vision due to diabetes complications, and he has since regained much of his sight,” Rama wrote in a social media post.

Rama highlighted that this achievement is particularly meaningful due to investments in the new ophthalmology unit, featuring modern technology and reimbursed vitrectomy packages, which provide free treatment without requiring referrals to other hospitals.

The Prime Minister extended his appreciation to the medical team, including Dr. Kemal Ylsek, Dr. Edmond Isufaj, Dr. Dilaver Haskaj, Dr. Engjëll Lazaj, Dr. Odela Risilia, and nurse Kleoniqi Mustafaraj.

With a committed team of doctors and nurses, the Regional Hospital of Vlora delivers medical care not only to local residents but also to domestic and international tourists visiting the city for their summer holidays.
