TIRANA, May  24 /ATA/ The Executive Director of the Institute for Studies of Crimes and Consequences of Communism in Albania, Çelo Hoxha, reported on Wednesday at the Parliamentary Committee for Legal Affairs, Public Administration and Human Rights on the activity of the institution he runs in the past year.

Hoxha clarified that, throughout 2022, the institution’s work focused on several directions, among which he mentioned the documentation of violence perpetrated against citizens by the People’s Protection Division and informing the public about the activity of this unlawful armed structure.

“We have also focused on documenting the unlawful activity of the State Security; identifying the victims of the communist regime and informing the public about their content; the collection of repressive laws under the communist regime, as evidence for structured state violence against citizens, etc.,” he said.

Hoxha said that all the economic agreements between Albania and Yugoslavia, 1945-48, were also documented and published.

“This is an important publication for two reasons: For the first time, it sheds light on economic relations between Albania and Yugoslavia, which we think is necessary for researchers in all fields, but also for the public opinion. The report articulates the goals of the Yugoslav state in the relations between the two countries which, referring to the official report of 1949 issued by the Ministry of Finance, were not based on reciprocity,” he clarified.
