Mayor Erion Veliaj on Saturday hosted a meeting with a group of Tirana residents and young couples, mainly beneficiaries from the social housing programme in the past few years, who shared their experience and acknowledged that the soft loan scheme had changed their lives.

Tirana Mayor noted that the number of beneficiaries has increased to over 1200 under the new housing programme this year.

“We plan to approve 1200 out 1700 soft loan applications to date or over 50% of the applicants. This is an unprecedented figure, given that only 10% to 20% of the applications were approved previously,” Veliaj said.

The programme offers subsidized and appropriate financing solutions for the eligible applicants under the cooperation between the Municipality of Tirana and the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation.

The mortgage subsidy program has been made available by Tirana Municipality will be handled via the web-based e-Albania platform in collaboration with second-tier banks, in a bid to help making home ownership more affordable by providing low interest rate loans to the eligible categories.

The goal of the project is to provide support for young couples and families to improve their housing and living conditions.
