TIRANA, Oct 13 /ATA/ “After 7 years of work, the Independent Qualification Commission has only 6 prosecutors and judges left to evaluate out of the 805 magistrates it was tasked with checking for their wealth, integrity, and professional proficiency.”

“From February 2018 until October 11, 2024, the IQC, also known as the First Instance of the Vetting Process, confirmed 368 prosecutors, judges, and legal assistants, while dismissing 267.”

“Along with the latter, 105 prosecutors and judges also left the system, choosing to resign rather than undergo the vetting process. In result, 273 vacancies were created in the system.”

“Meanwhile, the IQC sent 2 prosecutors back to the School of Magistrates for issues related to professional proficiency and suspended or left without a final decision 57 prosecutors and judges who had uncertainties about whether they still held the status of magistrate.”

In May 2020, SPAK announced that it had started investigations into 10 former judges of the High Court and the Constitutional Court based on their dismissal decisions delivered by the IQC.”

“For 5 of them, the Special Court has handed down conviction rulings, seized assets, or is currently judging them for failing to disclose their wealth.

The IQC’s term will run out in December of this year.”
