The President acknowledged the institution’s commitment to dealing with past issues and expressed his support for the Authority in fulfilling its legally assigned responsibilities.

“By honouring history, we call upon our conscience to learn from the mistakes of the past. We must build a model of justice in society, starting with the reassessment of all the violent injustices inflicted on the former persecuted in Albania.”

Begaj remarked, “The creation of a culture of repentance and sincere remorse by the perpetrators of this persecution has been unjustifiably delayed. The hypocrisy and lack of accountability in adopting this model over the past 34 years must come to an end.”

In the discussion, the head of state highlighted the importance of raising awareness and educating young Albanians who did not live through that regime.

“Future generations must learn about the past so that history does not repeat itself,” stated President Begaj.

As we have entered the election year, the President called on the Authority of the Files to verify the integrity of the candidates for the parliamentary elections in a timely fashion, ensuring that voters are represented by individuals with no ties to the past. /j.p/sm/
