TIRANA, May 9/ATA/ In the framework of the Venice Biennale, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, held a strategic meeting with Biennale President Pietrangelo Buttafuoco. Discussions focused on strengthening cultural partnership between Albania and Italy, as well as expanding Albania’s institutional cooperation with the Art Biennale and the Architecture Biennale—two of the most prestigious platforms of international cultural diplomacy.

The meeting focused on establishing long‑term cooperation that integrates culture, architecture, research, and artistic education, while fostering new connections among institutions, artists, curators, scholars, and the younger generation. Discussions also addressed the development of cultural exchanges, collaboration in the fields of archiving and documentation, and processes of preservation, exhibition, study, research, and critical writing on the history of Biennale pavilions over the years, with the objective of bringing and bring these experiences to life in Albania.

An important part of the discussion was dedicated to the forthcoming opening of the National Gallery of Arts, envisioned as a key institution for contemporary Albanian art and for advancing international partnerships in exhibitions, archives, and curatorial programs. The talks also explored opportunities for joint exhibitions, exchange programs, and the activation of artistic archives as instruments of cultural memory and contemporary dialogue.

Particular attention was devoted to the prospect of establishing new collaborative spaces for Albanian artists, architects, researchers, and curators, as well as to the possibility of securing a more stable and long‑term presence of Albania’s National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. The pavilion was underscored as a significant instrument for the international presentation of the nation’s cultural and creative identity.

The meeting also addressed Albania’s participation in future editions of the Venice Architecture Biennale and the Venice Art Biennale, viewed as an opportunity to position the country on the international map of contemporary culture, urban innovation, and artistic dialogue. This dialogue is expected to continue with dedicated visits by the President of the Venice Biennale to Tirana in the near future, aimed at deepening cultural cooperation and advancing joint strategic projects between the two countries.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of Italy–Albania relations and underscored the role of culture as a vital instrument of diplomacy, development, and cooperation between the two countries.
