Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, today highlighted the importance of the Naval Force’s mission, while sharing testimonies from Captains Arjanit Demçe and Ilir Nezha, Sergeant Major Artan Kojtari, and Sergeant Kujtim Voci, who spoke about their daily commitment to saving lives and combating illegal trafficking.

Vengu emphasized that the mission in the Aegean Sea confirms the readiness of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania to export security beyond our borders.
“The sacrifice of the sons and daughters of the Coast Guard is an inspiring example for all of us. Captains Arjanit Demçe and Ilir Nezha, Sergeant Major Artan Kojtari, and Sergeant Kujtim Voci are the professionals who ensure monitoring and patrolling in both calm and turbulent waters, saving lives, and fighting illegal trafficking,” said Vengu.

Captain of the ship “Iliria,” Ilir Nezha, explained that the main duty is to protect our maritime territory and enforce the rule of law at sea.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the Patrol Ship Group (DDV), Captain of the Third Rank, Arjanit Demçe, highlighted that the naval vessels of the Coast Guard have carried out various missions.
“Currently, even as we speak, a vessel of the naval forces and the Coast Guard is on a mission in the Aegean Sea, carrying out important tasks regarding illegal trafficking and assisting migrants,” said Demçe.

He brought to attention some of the main missions undertaken over the years, such as the rescue of over 25 migrants coming from Eastern countries who were attempting to reach Italy, as well as the collision of the ferry with a Turkish cargo ship, which occurred several years ago.
“The Naval Forces and the Coast Guard once again participated in this rescue mission because it is the mission and primary duty of the naval forces and the Coast Guard to save lives at sea,” he said.
