TIRANA, Jan 3 /ATA/ – Main opposition Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha said on Saturday that recent international developments, particularly in Venezuela, should serve as encouragement for Albania’s opposition, drawing parallels with the domestic political situation.

Speaking during an online exchange with citizens on social media, Berisha referred to what he described as the removal of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from power, calling it a positive development for democracy worldwide.

“Maduro’s removal from power is good news for all free people everywhere, especially for the people of Venezuela, who have suffered for years under his regime,” Berisha said.

He added that such developments should also be seen as a strong source of encouragement for Albania’s opposition.

According to Berisha, the situation in Venezuela sends a message to Albanians as well, urging the opposition to fulfil its role and work toward the removal of what he described as a government sustained by stolen votes and links to crime and corruption.

During the discussion, Berisha also commented on Iran, saying protests were under way against the ruling establishment.

“Today, the Iranian people are also taking to the streets against the ayatollahs’ regime. Entire cities are engulfed in strong protests,” he said, adding that he hoped the movements would lead to political change.
