TIRANA, Jan 10 /ATA/ Tirana has started 2022 as the European Youth Capital, with a super program that will last 365 days and give life to a calendar of projects with numerous initiatives and activities that cover a wide range of topics and priorities centered on youth.

To that end, the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, in a meeting with the heads of public secondary education institutions, which was attended by the Minister of Education and Sports, Evis Kushi, announced the call for opening the applications for project proposals with focus on supporting and empowering young people.

In his remarks, Veliaj said that the investments in education today, for a generation of young people who will be more skilled tomorrow, are visible.

“I really wanted you to come to Kombinat to see that the ‘Lasgush Poradeci’ school is not 3D, but a reality; in fact, it’s a lot better than the schools I went to when I was a student abroad. Of course, technology advances, everything new is more beautiful than what has been done before even in much more developed countries, but who would have thought that we would have a school of this standard in Kombinat? We have opportunities we did not have before. Every school project contains a hall that can serve as a theater, cinema, or for activities,” said Veliaj.

He said that for our country these are important years, both in the local plan with Tirana designated as the European Youth Capital, and in the national plan, where Albania is a member of the UN Security Council for two years.
“Two things are happening, on two different platforms: One is the local platform and the other is the national platform. On the national platform, Albania in 2022-23 is a member of the Security Council. In a world that is changing very fast, especially after COVID, but also with all the geopolitical movements, it is great luck that we also have a local platform. We have a historic chance for our Tirana. In fact, it is the first time that we receive the title of European Youth Capital, ” declared Veliaj.

The mayor invited the young people to participate with their projects and ideas.

“We have undertaken to build more youth infrastructure. We just opened the hand sports stadium “Farie Hoti” built from scratch, or the Olympic Park. We want to start the Palace of Sports very soon. We want to do the same with the “Selman Stërmasi” stadium. We want to launch a call to build a decent infrastructure for school or university football teams. This year we intend to finish the Pyramid, which will be the biggest space for information technology,” stressed Veliaj.
