TIRANA, June  25 /ATA/ “Sami Frashëri” high school is set to open the doors for the upcoming school year in September. Built back way bigger than the one that was heavily damaged by the devastating earthquake, in a unique architecture style and with teaching settings up to the standards.”

The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who has followed every step of the way the reconstruction of the school, saw first-hand the progress of works, which he said is the icing on the cake in the project for construction of over 40 schools in Tirana.

“It will be the largest and most beautiful school in the Republic of Albania. “Sami Frashëri” was damaged by the earthquake and unfortunately was politically weaponized. I say to my colleagues on the other end of political spectrum: Do not bet against progress, do not bet against the future, because it is always lost! Whoever leaves no stone unturned to block the playground, then a school, and then a square, the Bazaar, the Castle and the Lake, is destined to lose because the city is destined to win. This school has produced half of our government, but it has also produced more than half of our opposition. Fighting for schools in 2022, standing in the way public works, is an ugly style of the past,” said Veliaj.

The mayor added that it is not at all a nice thing to impede good and quality works.

The mayor said that this will be the school of the future, with increased capacity, which will further drive up the value of the surrounding area.

Veliaj broke the good news to the “Sami Frashëri” high school leavers, who will hold the graduation ceremony in the new premises of the transformed school.

“We have set a standard for the schools of the future. An apartment is sold at a higher price and faster if there is something beautiful nearby, let alone a school. The good news for all the high schoolers who will graduate this year, who are the generation of earthquake and pandemic, who have learned in other schools, is that they can throw the graduation party at the new giant gym of ‘Sami Frashëri.’  Meanwhile the inauguration ceremony will be held in September, when the new school year opens, ” Veliaj concluded his remarks.
