Mayor Erion Veliaj said that the delays have come as a result of litigation by political parties.
He emphasized that the court has ruled in favor of the municipality in all court cases that caused delays, and very soon the lot will be cast for the distribution of apartments for the affected families.

“We have a draft decision approving the payment of rent, according to the free market value, for individuals and their assets that are affected by expropriation for public interest in the light of the reconstruction process in the Kombinati area. As you have seen, we are very close to finalizing it after several litigation processes that stood in our way. Fortunately, the court has ruled in our favor. I have a message for all political parties that dedicate resources to stand in our way: The municipality of Tirana is not held back. 99% of the citizens move into their homes, only this 1% has remained homeless due to delays caused by litigation. Since we are close to the end, we will continue to cover with the rent subsidy the citizens of Kombinat to the last day,” emphasized Veliaj.

The Council approved today the list of families that qualify for economic assistance as well as those families that benefit rent subsidy as they cannot afford free market rent.
