TIRANA, Sept 17 /ATA/ The Municipality of Tirana will join the World Clean-up Day, on Saturday, September 18th. The action, which is expected to mobilize employees, but also many citizens organized voluntarily in certain places in every neighbourhood of Tirana, was launched by the Mayor, Erion Veliaj, who announced that the capital will continue the annual tradition of cleaning the city.

“Now the city is clean like never before. Whoever comes from abroad, – even the Chancellor’s delegation that was a few days ago, – could tell the difference: “Tirana has changed beyond recognition”. But the question is, “Is that enough?” Clearly not enough! When you see that there are still people throwing stuff from the balcony, or how in small bins designated for recyclable materials, certain people drop industrial household waste, it means that we still have a long way to go, practically we need to change the mindset. Therefore, I am glad that, in addition to the staff of the Municipality, I see many volunteers, as this cannot be done alone, “said Veliaj, underlining that a city that will be the European Youth Capital 2022 must be clean first.

The mayor has shared important news regarding the decisions on Tirana’s cleanup. One of the companies tasked with cleaning one of the administrative units will be stripped of the license because the waste management there falls short of the standards.
