TIRANA, April 22 /ATA/- Revenues from collection of VAT on imports for the period January-March of this year are estimated at ALL 25.8 billion, ALL 3.2 billion or 14.1% more than a year ago, as well as ALL 1 billion or 3.9% less than the 3 month target 2021.

The Ministry of Finance and Economy announces that the failure to meet the value added tax collections target is related to a range of factors.

“The economic situation triggered by COVID-19 has led to a drop in VAT revenues collected by customs offices for some categories of items. During the first three months of 2021, the decrease in the amount of imported electricity compared to 2020 has brought a negative effect of ALL 174 million on VAT revenues. The positive effect driven by price adjustment is estimated at 103 million ALL,” the ministry announced.

During the first three months of 2021, customs products with a positive effect on VAT revenues are the import of used vehicles, base metals and articles thereof, clothing and textiles, plastics and articles, and construction materials, which have a contribution positive of ALL 1.6 billion. Among the products with negative effect are electricity, flour and wheat, fruits and vegetables, meat and new vehicles, with a negative effect of 0.5 billion ALL.//a.i/
