Hundreds of tourists, mostly foreigners, flock to the Valbona valley, in Tropoja, throughout the year where the rugged terrain, abundance of cold, clean streams and rivers that are home to trout, make it a major attraction of northern Albania.

Most adventurers climb mountains up to two thousand meters high, while others prefer to go hiking along the river near the waterfall.

Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, visited Valbona, where she stopped at one of the hotels in this area, which is managed by a returnee who has invested in his hometown.

“When you travel the world, but you understand that your home country offers the best, in the midst of alpine pastures of Valbona valley, you build up your economy and that of your children. With Sherif from Tropoja a returnee who together with his wife Janet from Germany are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the” Margjeka “hotel,” said Kumbaro.

To go to Valbona, tourists sail by ferry from Koman to Fierza, and then by other modes of transport arrive in the tourist area, or along the road of the Nation.

“Valbona Valley” National Park is situated in Tropoja, 25 to 30 km northwest of the city of Bajram Curri. This park lies between high and steep peaks covered with a blaze of color all year round. It spans an area of 8 thousand hectares and is described as the miracle of the Albanian Alps.

The valley starts from Valbona pass in the west and ends in the Drini valley in the southwest, near the dam of the Fierza hydropower plant.

The Albanian government aims to further increase support for citizens who will convert their homes into guesthouses.

For every returnee who invests in the house of his parents or grandparents, the government gives a grant of 5 thousand euros. /j.p/sm/
