TIRANA, April 14 /ATA/ – The Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu said in a televised interview on Thursday that the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic would end if around 70 percent of the population gets vaccinated.

Health Minister stated that vaccination should go on as the only weapon against COVID-19 and the only weapon to protect health and relax the upcoming tourism season.

“As the World Health Organization has warned the pandemic’s acute phase is still far from over. This phase will end once 70% of population gets vaccinated. We are seeing many countries in Europe and around the world registering a significant increase in the number of fresh infections, whereas Albania is recording a stable downward trend. Number of hospitalized patients is not increasing as vaccines have ensured protection from severe COVID cases,” Manastirliu said.

TIRANA, June 26 /ATA/ – The central Albanian municipality of Elbasan has made entire Skampa Theatre building available for mass coronavirus vaccination.

The Chairman of the Socialist Party’s Parliamentary Group Taulant Balla, who saw the vaccine rollout up close, said that “the process cannot take place in outdoor squares due to high temperatures and therefore people over 50, in addition to health care centres, can report at Skampa Theatre to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.”

The senior Socialist official called for utmost care, and put emphasis on the importance of vaccination for a successful tourism season.

“Every Elbasan citizen should report at the health care centres or at the vaccination site at Skampa Theatre to receive the jab for free. It is a contribution every citizen can make to strengthen the defensive barricade against COVID. We should do whatever it takes to maintain the current normal situation, which will allow tourism to grow this year,” Balla said.

TIRANA, April 1 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Thursday evening that Albania has launched a mass vaccination programme against the COVID-19, underlining that the country would rank among the countries at the forefront of the effort against the virus on the continent.

“We face unique conditions in history of our lifetime and we face and extraordinary challenge. My goal was to break the vicious cycle we found ourselves in when the EU left us outside the vaccine distribution vaccine,” PM Rama said.

According to him, most of countries in the region have yet to start the immunisation process and administering just a symbolic number of vaccines and the mass vaccination has yet to start.

“Unlike many other countries, we secured the contract with pharmaceutical company Pfizer and we started to bring in the coronavirus vaccines when other countries were idly sitting and watching. We have already launched the mass vaccination programme. I am very proud that with the mass inoculation campaign on the go, Albania will rank among countries faring better in the continent, regarding vaccination at least,” he said.

We will administer a record number of vaccine doses within a short time – PM Rama went on saying – adding that vaccination drive would significantly relax the upcoming tourism season.

The government head also said he wouldn’t relax and sleep as long as there are still quake-affected families waiting for their new houses to be built.
