TIRANA, May 10 /ATA/ Skënder Brataj, head of National Emergency, said that “the pandemic situation in our country is stable and soon the relaxation of restriction measures will ensue.”

In a televised interview, Brataj said that, “we have taken a turn for the better, the situation has stabilized, yet the time has not come to let the guard down.”

Brataj said that, “the infection is declining and based on the tests performed it is below 5%. So the decision to ease the restrictions hinges on the indicators. The critical time is now past and the figures are optimistic.”

“The pandemic has affected the whole world, not only Albania. Fortunately, Albania dropped out of the red zone and we have delivered 600,000 vaccines, but the new strains that emerge are borderless. Yet I think the period of summer is no longer a cause for concern. We are conducting mass vaccination rollout and have put in place constant protection measures from light to moderate. We will proceed with mass vaccination, which will lead to relaxation of the restrictions,” Brataj said.

“The official figures are what we know, but in epidemiology they should be multiplied by 5 or 10. So compared to 130,000 officially infected, almost 1 million 300 thousand people have had the virus,” added Brataj.
He stressed that in countries where immunization is running at high rates the severe forms of infection are declining.

“Those who have been vaccinated will travel freely. The Chinese vaccine is like any other, it is based on existing technology and has worked,” he said.
