TIRANA, April 23/ATA/ President Bajram Begaj is on a visit to the United States of America.

During this visit, he was honored at The American Dream at 250: Still Within Reach?” forum, hosted by the George Bush School of Government and Public Service and Texas A&M University.

In his speech at this forum, the head of state shared reflections on the history, democracy, leadership and influence of the United States, emphasizing that the American Dream is still well within reach.

Addressing the students, he introduced himself by sharing his story.

“As a doctor-turned-soldier, I became president of a state defined by five decades of ideological isolation,” he said.

Focusing on communist Albania, he emphasized the country’s extreme isolation.

“The regime built 750,000 concrete bunkers… to stop the influence of the world and to keep its citizens isolated,” Begaj said.

However, “The American Dream earned through desire, not granted by permission.”

President Begaj recalled the year 1991 when Albania collapsed communism and paved the way to democracy.

“Albanians did not take to the streets waving ideological flags. They came out demanding to be free,” he said.

The president emphasized in his speech that from the dawn of our democratic transition, Albania viewed the United States not merely as an abstract ideal, but as a tangible ally and a cornerstone of our strategic alignment.

He emphasized that the current challenges are crucial for democracies and that he is optimistic about the future.

“The answer is still yes. American Dream is still fundamentally reachable. And it is proof that freedom works,” Begaj said.

During his visit to the state of Texas, the President of the Republic was received by local authorities.

President Begaj was honored with the “Key to the City” of the Municipality of Conroe.

The Head of State also paid homage at the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park, which also includes the names of Albanian-Americans serving in the US military.

In context of the visit, the president also paid tribute to former president George Bush at his gravesite. /m.q/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, February 22 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that the visit to the USA for the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace is one of the most special moments of the week, emphasizing that Albania participated as a founding member in a roundtable where, according to him, is being opened a new chapter in the global security architecture.

In the “Weekly Reflections” feature of the “FLASIM” (Let’s Talk) podcast, Rama stated that Albania proudly sat at this international roundtable, while also confirming our country’s participation in the international stabilization force in Gaza.

The prime minister emphasized that the speech delivered on behalf of Albania also conveyed the national concern regarding the judicial process in The Hague against former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, including former Kosovo president Hashim Thaçi.

Rama expressed his confidence that increased international awareness of this issue will affect the accountability of the judicial body.

The prime minister emphasized that the judicial body must choose between justice for Kosovo and, as he put it, “the shame of those who tarnish Kosovo”, between the innocence of the liberators and their persecution, as well as between the dignity of a court and its ultimate self-desecration. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, Sept 12 /ATA/ – The National Puppet Theatre, in partnership with the Theatre of the Diaspora, staged five Albanian-language puppet shows for children of the diaspora in the United States.

Melsi Qirici, director of the National Center for Children’s Culture, hailed the initiative in an online post, calling it “a new chapter in our national pride.”

The collaboration allowed Albanian children growing up thousands of kilometers from their homeland to experience performances in their mother tongue. The shows stirred emotions, resonated widely within the Albanian-American community, and attracted media attention.

The New York-based newspaper Dielli wrote: “The National Puppet Theatre performances in New York raise the curtain on the new school year and open the door to a promising partnership.”

The performances coincided with a historic moment for the community: the inclusion of the Albanian language in official communications at New York City public schools.

Boston’s Vatra newspaper described the event as “a rare and unforgettable occasion for Albanian children to watch artistic performances in their native language and connect more deeply with our culture.”

Qirici offered special praise to artists Klaudia Hila, Esmeralda Kame, and Ermonela Alikaj for representing Albanian theatre with dignity and passion on American stages.

“This is only the beginning of a new partnership between the Puppet Theatre and the Theatre of the Diaspora – a mission to bring our theatre wherever Albanian is spoken,” Qirici said.
